This sand film is devoted to the holy memory of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II and his Family.
On 17 (4, Old Style) July the Russian Orthodox Church celebrates the memory of the martyrs of Nicholas II, Empress Alexandra, their children - Prince Alexei, Grand Duchesses Olga, Tatiana, Maria and Anastasia, martyred in Yekaterinburg in the basement of the Ipatiev house on the night 16 to 17 July 1918.
This tragedy is the tragedy of the century, their holy blood is on many generations of Russians. All we can do - say "We are sorry" and do everything to make their memory alive.
Kseniya Simonova: "For me it was a very difficult and risky step. I have been trying to create a sand story about Nicholas II and his Holy Family for more than two years but I understood - I couldn't. Too much emotions. And also I knew too much - I have been studied the history of Romanovs for fifteen years. And now the time came. This sand story is the longest live film i have ever created. There's much allegory there - I did not want to make it straightly, I did not want to teach anyone. I hope the audience will get it without my help. In our Church, they are Holy and we pray them. I think it's right".
